I’ve been wanting to travel the world my entire life. I remember growing up and seeing students on the street, backpacks in hand, carrying their worlds on their backs as they walked from one country to the next. These weeks-long trips before and after college graduation were for many students, myself included, a ticket to adulthood.

And yet I found myself held back from taking them—I had a job that forbade me from taking time off longer than two weeks at a time, and when I subsequently decided to go back to get my law degree those dreams had faded away into hopelessness. But then it hit me: Why couldn’t I travel while studying? Now that I’ve just completed traveling halfway around the world during my last semester of law school, here’s what I learned about how you can do it too!
A bit of background
In 2016, I started a blog about beauty products. After posting several articles on the subject, I decided to branch out into travel blogging and then eventually law school blogging as well. While most people might wonder how someone can start a blog while in law school, it wasn’t that difficult for me since my workload was manageable and there were times when I didn’t have any classes or exams scheduled within a given week or so (such as when the exam period was over).

Planning for the next break

- Put in a few hours to plan what you want to do during your next break, and when that break will be. This is something you should do every year so that it becomes second nature for you, and so that when the time comes around again, you don’t have any surprises.
- Book tickets:
- Online booking sites like Expedia or Skyscanner are helpful places to start looking for flights and hotels (if applicable) because they’ll show fares from various airlines, with options ranging from economy class through business class to first-class seating on some routes depending on price point and duration of flight respectively – meaning whether or not you want to splurge on a luxury trip!
- Book accommodations: If staying at hotels isn’t your thing then Airbnb is another great option for finding somewhere comfortable – especially if travelling with friends who want similar types of experience too.
The actual trip
As I mentioned earlier, the trip was a lot of fun. But it was also a lot of work. I’m not going to lie: planning this trip took a lot of time and energy. In fact, I could easily write a whole other blog post on how much work went into making this happen!
And even though we did things that were sometimes painful or difficult—like spending hours waiting at an airport because our flight got delayed or staying up all night while watching our luggage get lost by customs—in general, the planning process itself was something that I truly enjoyed doing.
The biggest reason for my enjoyment? Learning about other cultures and people around the world has been one of my favorite things ever since childhood (and even before that). As someone who loves learning about new places and cultures, planning this trip felt like an extension of what had always been one of my passions in life: traveling far away from home so as to be immersed in different cultures with interesting stories to tell!
The feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment at the end of it all
At the end of it all, you will feel a huge sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. You will also be able to see that you can do anything you set your mind to. When traveling long-term, I’ve realized how important it is to be able to overcome challenges and follow your dreams; these are two things that many people aren’t willing or don’t know how to do.
In addition, when traveling for an extended period of time, I also believe that one should take advantage of the opportunity by doing what they want in life rather than following other people’s expectations or letting others make decisions for them (e.g., going into law).
