Sending cash from your credit card can be a great way to pay down debt or be a terrible mistake. If you don’t have the money in the first place, then there’s no point in sending it through your credit card. But if you have the money, there are several ways to send money with a credit card! In this article, you’ll find out two of them: using prepaid cards and transferring funds directly into your bank account.
Use your credit card to load money onto a prepaid card
If you have a credit card, you can use it to load money onto a prepaid card. These cards are great for people who don’t have bank accounts or credit cards. They’re also good for people with bad credit who can’t open up a checking account because of their past financial mistakes (and sometimes present ones).
Transfer the funds to your bank account
You can use your credit card to transfer funds directly to your bank account. This is a great way to get funds in an emergency or for everyday expenses, like rent or groceries. You may also want to use this method if you don’t have enough cash but need money immediately, like when there’s an unexpected car repair bill.
As per SoFi professionals, “You could use a money transfer service to send money by credit card. For example, Western Union allows customers to pay for a money transfer using a credit card. You can do so via the app, in person, or online. But, like the other solutions for transferring money with a credit card, a money transfer service may charge a fee.”
Use the credit card to pay a friend or family member’s bill
If you want to send money to a friend or family member, it’s possible to do so using your credit card. This is often referred to as “loading” funds onto the person’s debit card. The process is simple: use your credit card to pay a bill for someone else.
The downside? Credit card companies typically charge fees for this service, and some banks may require you to provide proof that the recipient has been informed of the payment before they’ll allow it.
Put it towards a travel expense
The best way to use your credit card to pay for travel expenses is by booking a flight, hotel room, or rental car with it. If you’re planning on traveling soon and have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, consider using your credit card as a payment method. There are multiple benefits:
- You can earn rewards points and/or miles that can be used towards future travel expenses (and sometimes even more than just the initial cost)
- You can avoid paying foreign transaction fees (it’s free!)
- You’ll be inspired to book something new!
There are a lot of ways to use your credit card to send money, so don’t let any of the above scare you! If anything, it should make you excited about the possibilities.
